DFW Yarn Crawl: August 18th to August 27th
Our Theme this year is Making Fiber Jewelry
Look at all the fun activities we have planned for you:
Friday Night Pajama and Pizza Parties
(August 18th and 25th)
Leef Bloomenstiel of Appleleef Farms will be presenting a program on:
A VISUAL TOUR OF FAIR ISLE AND OTHER STRANDED COLOR KNITTING Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors. It is named after Fair Isle, a tiny island in the north of Scotland, that forms part of the Shetland Islands. While most people think most all stranded color techniques are Fair Isle, there are actually several other styles of stranded color knitting. This presentation is a beautiful visual tour of these distinctive styles and techniques.
As an added Friday bonus, My Country Closet will be giving a lecture on Fashion Trends from the Most Recent Market and a mini-fashion show. Then her shop will be open for private shopping.
Pizza and beverages will be provided free of charge and there is no need to RSVP, just come and go throughout the evening. Lectures will start at 7 pm.
Trunk Show of the work of beading artist Mary Jo Mundell
As part of an ongoing program each day of the crawl, we are going to present various methods of creating jewelry using knitting and crochet technique along with materials such as wire and beads. Come view the work of Mary Jo Mundell, a textile artist with over 50 years experience in design and beadwork involving many hand skills. Get ideas for Christmas presents that you will be proud to give (and that cost less then $5 and a few hours to make in some cases). Open you eyes to the world of multi-media hobbies. The secret is in using glamorous yarns in stunning colorways and pairing them with the proper beads. Where else to find such a selection of novelty yarns then Fiber Circle – the largest yarn shop in Texas.
Make and Take a Hammered Metal Shawl Pin
Be prepared to spend 15 to 30 minutes hands on learning how to make a freeform shawl pin out of soft wire that is then hardened into shape. We show you how, then creativity takes over.
Sidewalk Sales Each Day – We will be pulling out boxes of yarns priced from $1 to $6. Each day the variety will change but we promise the rummaging will be worth it.
Extended Shop Hours. Fiber Circle will be open from 9:30 am to 6 pm each and every day of the crawl except Sundays when our hours are 10 to 4. And the Friday night PJ and Pizza parties go until 2 am the next morning. Then we have to kick you out and get some sleep.
Fiber Circle carries gorgeous yarns for knitting and crocheting in every price range from Noro, Universal, Cascade, Colinette, Feza, Ella Rae, Kraemer, Brown Sheep, Katia, Juniper Moon Farms and much, much more.
We specialize in unique novelty yarns for scarves and accessories – our selection is the largest in North Texas.
Our mercantile is nestled in the historic downtown area of Farmersville, TX – 38 miles NE of Dallas and midway between Greenville and McKinney on TX Highway 380.
